Pitti Filati – Spring 2027 – Why we plan collections so far in advance

I am writing these words in January 2026, while the trade fair discussed here relates to the Spring 2027 season. Is that too early? Quite the opposite. This kind of planning gives our clients a real advantage: finished products reach the market exactly when they should.

At Piwi Femma, we work in a Private Label model, which is why having full control over the entire process is essential to us — from yarn selection all the way through to final production.

Why do we start so early?

CThe development cycle of a knitwear collection is long and requires precision:

  • January – attendance at Pitti Filati
  • February – ordering yarn catalogues and samples
  • March–May – working with samples, creating swatches and selecting materials
  • June–September – development of prototypes
  • From September onwards – production, tailored to each client’s individual timeline

Thanks to this approach, our partners can design their knitwear collections calmly, without time pressure and without compromising on quality.

Do trade fairs still make sense in an online world?

Absolutely.

Orders can be placed online, but trade fairs are where technical discussions happen and materials can be assessed in real life. Only at an exhibitor’s stand is it possible to:

  • evaluate the handle, appearance and quality of the knit,
  • compare different yarn variants in a short time,
  • conduct multiple in-depth technical conversations in a single day.

Over two trade fair days, we are able to review the offer of dozens of spinning mills — a significant time saving for our clients.

Direct contact also plays an important role. Face-to-face meetings build relationships, facilitate cooperation, and often speed up subsequent stages of a project — including those that begin over a shared espresso.

The scale of Pitti Filati

Pitti Filati takes place twice a year — in January and July — and brings together leading European yarn producers.

The spring edition is usually slightly smaller than the autumn one, but it still fully reflects the key directions of development in the European yarn market. This year, most Italian spinning mills were present, alongside exhibitors from the United Kingdom and Japan.

What were we looking for at Pitti Filati?

Our goal was to find partners who genuinely support fast and flexible Private Label collections.

1. A real stock service

Zależy nam na przędzalniach, które oferują faktycznie dostępny magazyn, a nie tylko „stock” deklarowany w katalogu. To kluczowe, jeśli chcemy szybko realizować zamówienia klientów i unikać opóźnień.

We look for spinning mills that offer genuinely available stock, not just “stock” declared in catalogues. This is crucial if we want to execute client orders quickly and avoid delays.

2. Efficient service

We focused on companies that guarantee:

  • quick email responses,
  • efficient shipping of samples and orders,
  • clear technical communication.

3. New and interesting materials

Among the most interesting discoveries were:

  • yarns made from sea algae,
  • 100% recycled cotton sourced from denim,
  • 100% alpaca without a polyester core.

What’s next?

Trade fairs are only the beginning of a process that will conclude in around a year with the delivery of finished products to our clients.

The coming months will include:

  • analysing notes and ordering catalogues,
  • selecting the most promising yarns,
  • ordering samples and creating swatches,
  • production tests and further selection,
  • preparing curated yarn and swatch sets for client presentations.

The entire process will take approximately 3–4 months, so that in May and June our clients can calmly begin work on their Spring 2027 collection designs.

What lies ahead?

In July, we will take part in the next edition of the trade fair, this time dedicated to raw materials for the Autumn–Winter 2027 season.

Planning, testing and consistency — this is what enables our clients to receive tailored, timely and high-quality Private Label knitwear collections.
